Welcome to Elderbank Primary School Website

I have the great pleasure and privilege of introducing myself as the Head Teacher of Elderbank which opened to pupils on Tuesday 19th August 2014.

This is a very exciting time as Broomlands Primary, Fencedyke Primary and Towerlands Primary amalgamated to create Elderbank. Elderbank is a state of the art building which serves the communities of Broomlands and Bourtreehill. Included in the building are 23 teaching bases, Early Years provision for 50 children in the morning and 50 children in the afternoon, an ICT Suite, an Audiovisual Room, School Library, Parents’ Room in the School and Early Years, Staff Preparation Areas, Visiting Services Rooms and a Meeting Room.

Elderbank caters for the needs of all children from 3-12 years.  In addition to the Early Years provision and the 18 classes from Primary 1-7, at the heart of the school there is a Hearing Impairment Base which supports deaf children from across Ayrshire while also supporting the learners as they integrate into the mainstream classes through the use of appropriate staffing and communication aids. There is also be a Supported Learning provision which supports young people with moderate learning difficulties and this is an integral part of the school.

I have enjoyed working with all pupils, staff, parents, carers and the school community as we build and establish Elderbank as a Centre of Excellence.

To date we can reflect on the many achievements.  All children have settled into their new classes and made some new friends.  The children have elected their House Captains and all children have been allocated their House Groups.  The Eco-Committee has been established and a group has already been out to visit another school to see how we can develop Outdoor Learning.

We have successfully organised a MacMillan Coffee Morning and associated fundraising activities and handed over a cheque for £1100.

Primary 7 have been on a residential Visit to Arran, which they really enjoyed.

We have also had a Primary 1-3 Christmas Concert and Nativity and an Early Years Nativity. In addition we have a two pantomime performances in school to entertain all of the children (we couldn’t all fir in to one performance!) We have also had Christmas Parties for every stage from Early Years to Primary 7 and Santa even came to visit all the children in the Early Level.

Parents and carers have been invited in to see Primary 5, Primary 1 and Primary 7A at work and the dates for the other classes are set.

We have an active Parent Council who have organised a Disco and Christmas Fayre and raised valuable money for the pupils. When we consider we have only been open for 16 weeks we are really pleased with what we have achieved.  We know we have many new challenges ahead of us, but we thank everyone for their assistance as we strive to move forward together.

I can be contacted on 01294-218632 or by using the contact us page on this website, if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind regards
